Star Wars: The Story in Music
The season brings a wide range of programs and works by living composers, alongside a diverse lineup of conductors, performers, and composers, as well as a robust Popular Artist series in the Koussevitzky Music Shed (expect such musical icons such as Ringo Starr who starts the season off on June 17 Bonnie Raitt, and James Taylor). Over this weekends three BSO concerts, Andris Nelsons and his frequent collaborator, English pianist Paul Lewis, perform all five of Ludwig van Beethovens piano concertos. Masquerade, by the U.S.-based English composer Anna Clyne, evokes the unique milieu of mid-18th-century London promenade concerts; this is the BSOs first performance of Clynes music. This season includes eight world and American premieres and 28 works by living composers, as well as 21 artists making their Tanglewood or BSO debuts. Ticket includes admission to the 6pm Prelude Concert.
